Choir at Shine

On 7 July 2017, we saw hundreds of people come together #BECAUSEOFMUSIC to celebrate music and music education at London's iconic Barbican centre. There we celebrated the best of music education and were joined by over 200 young performers.

Some highlights from the day included:

A brand new piece of music, called Shine, was performed by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Southbank Sinfonia and 3 BBC Young Musicians, composed by Mark Armstrong!

We celebrated leadership in music education with the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards, presented by Myleene Klass.

Our host for the morning was Classic FM’s Margherita Taylor, who spoke about the great connecting force that is music!

If you couldn’t be there, don’t worry! Experience some of the amazing performances that took place:

  • Josie Duncan performing a traditional Scottish song
  • Southbank Sinfonia performing Beethoven’s famous 1st mvt from Symphony no. 5
  • Highfield Junior School choir performing Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow’s Sing

So what’s next?

A version of Shine the music is now available to download for FREE on the ABRSM website. We’ll be making more versions available throughout the year.

Our hashtag #BECAUSEOFMUSIC trended on Twitter and caught your imagination. We want to continue shining a spotlight on the benefits of music through real stories and real people.
